This memorandum provides guidelines for the sale or other disposition of used textbooks and other instructional materials and should be considered a replacement for Memo Number COM-10-076 (issued on 10-21-09). The following guidelines are intended to provide school districts and education service cooperatives with examples of suggested methods of disposing of unusable, outdated textbooks.
Textbooks/instructional may be disposed of in any way that a school district or education service cooperative deems fit or necessary, including, but not limited to:
1. Donated to students, parents, public libraries, or other charities;
2. Sold, if no feasible educational use exists for the textbooks/materials; or
3. Donated for recycling.
