Child nutrition directors should mark Tuesday, August 3, and Wednesday, August 4, 2010, on the calendar and register for the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) Child Nutrition Unit (CNU) Directorsí Conference. The conference will be held at the Holiday Inn Airport, 3201 Bankhead Drive, Little Rock. Hotel information is given below, and a registration form is attached.

Registration for the Directorsí Conference will begin at 8 a.m. in the Atrium Sidewalk near the Atrium and Solarium. A continental breakfast will be provided during registration. The Conference will begin at 9 a.m. in the Kitty Hawk Ballroom.

Program content will include an update on Child Nutrition Reauthorization, the new Child Nutrition Unit Web site, seasonal Arkansas products, Eligibility Manual changes, Fresh Fruits and Vegetable Program, Team Nutrition grant highlights and the Healthier US School Challenge.

New Directorsí Orientation Workshop:

The New Directorsí Orientation will begin the afternoon of Wednesday, August 4, and be completed by noon on Thursday, August 5. Participants of New Directorsí Orientation will be provided lunch on Wednesday and a continental breakfast on Thursday. This training is for first-year directors, superintendents, and independent managers.

The ADE Child Nutrition Unit will provide training and orientation on the Agreement and Policy Statement, collection procedures, meal patterns for menus, record keeping requirements, procurement, children with special needs, parent / student involvement, and available resources.

To register for both meetings, please mail the registration form(s) and check(s) made payable to ADE Child Nutrition Unit by June 30, 2010, to:

The attached registration form that is in Adobe format (.pdf) is a form that can be saved, completed on the computer and then printed for mailing. The completed form cannot be "saved;" therefore, after it has been completed it is only possible to print the completed form. This must be done while the completed form is still showing on the computer screen. A free version of Adobe Reader may be downloaded if needed from: http://get.adobe.com/reader/

A confirmation of registration for each participant registered will be mailed to the school district address as provided on the registration form. It is the districtís responsibility to notify each participant that the registration has been confirmed.

Hotel Accommodations:

The Directorsí Conference and New Directors Orientation are being held in Little Rock at the Holiday Inn Airport, which is connected by a parking lot to the Holiday Inn Express. Participants will be allowed the special room rates at either hotel. The Holiday Inn Airport is totally non-smoking while the Holiday Inn Express has a limited number of smoking guest rooms.

Hotel accommodations must be made by July 13, 2010. To reserve rooms at special rates, call Holiday Inn Airport reservations toll free at 1-877-863-4780 or call the hotel directly at 501-490-1000. To make reservations at the Holiday Inn Express call toll free 1-800-315-2621 or call the hotel directly at 501-490-4000. Be sure to request the ADE Child Nutrition rates of $88.00 per night for up to two people ($10 additional charge for third or fourth person in room). Hotel policy does not allow more than four people to a guest room.

The above rates will not be applicable after July 13, 2010. Reservations should be made as soon as participants are approved to attend the meetings.
