Each year, the Arkansas Council of Teachers of English and Language Arts (ACTELA) presents four English Teacher of the Year awards to distinguished educators of English language arts. One English Teacher of the Year award is presented at each of the following levels: elementary (K-4), middle school (5-8), secondary (9-12), and college.
In order to qualify for these awards, teachers must have at least five years of teaching experience in Arkansas schools and must currently be employed full-time at the elementary, middle school, high school, or college level. Nominees must also show evidence of outstanding teaching, professionalism, and service in English language arts.
Nomination letters are accepted from those familiar with the quality of a teacher’s work, such as a colleague, friend, administrator, student, community leader, or one’s self. Nomination letters should include information concerning the nominee’s teaching innovations, successes, and honors; the nominee’s professionalism that includes research, study, publication, membership and participation in professional organizations, and/or honors; and the nominee’s service to school, community, state, and/or nation. In addition, nomination letters must include telephone, e-mail, and address information of both the nominee and nominator.
Nomination letters must be received by the ACTELA Teacher of the Year Committee no later than August 15, 2010. Please submit nomination letters to the following address:
