The Black History Commission of Arkansas and the Arkansas History Commission will host the “Profiles in Arkansas Black History: African-American Schools, a Legacy to Remember,” workshop from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center in Little Rock. The workshop will bring together former students and educators to share the history of African-American schools that slowly closed in the late 1960s after integration, but whose legacies survive through historic research, preservation, and school alumni groups throughout the state.

The workshop is free, but registration is required. To register, please contact Linda McDowell, Arkansas History Commission, at linda.mcdowell@arkansas.gov or call 501-682-6900. The registration deadline is May 25, 2010. A limited number of box lunches will be provided with pre-registration.
