Economics Arkansas is sponsoring a series of workshops throughout the summer for 9-12 social studies and business teachers. The entire workshop consists of four modules: Economic Fundamentals (two days), Micro Economics, Macro Economics, and Personal Finance (one day each). This workshop was developed for high school social studies and business teachers who will be teaching the one-half unit of economics required for students graduating in 2014.

The economics workshops will be interactive and will assist teachers with pedagogy and strategies for the upcoming high school economics courses. Participants will receive a notebook of materials correlated to the student learning expectations in the Arkansas economics curriculum framework as well as the economic standards from the Council for Economic Education, lessons and handouts, and a Virtual Economics CD-ROM containing over 1,200 reproducible lessons in economics and personal finance. Additionally, the Economics Arkansas workshops are Arkansas Department of Education certified, and teachers will receive credit toward the required professional development hours if it complies with the school district policy.

A few locations will offer the training in its entirety this summer. Other locations across the state will offer the Economic Fundamentals workshop this summer; the additional modules will be offered at a future date. Please review the attachment for locations and dates of upcoming economics workshops.

Please visit the Economics Arkansas Web site at www.economicsarkansas.org and click on the “Calendar and Registration” tab for all workshops offered through Economics Arkansas this summer as well as possible site additions or cancellations.
