Every School in Arkansas with a CERTIFIED PHYSICAL EDUCATOR is eligible for a new national initiative that focuses on physical activity and health promotion. The program, MARCH INTO MAY, was developed by the National Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity (NCPPA) in cooperation with The Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research. The NCPPA was created after the 1996 U.S. Surgeon General's landmark report that linked physical activity to good health.

Because MARCH INTO MAY is based on a team concept, participants are motivated by each other. Developed for the CENTERS for DISEASE CONTROL and PREVENTION (CDC) employees, MARCH INTO MAY serves two purposes; (1) encourages each employee to set personal goals for moderate levels of exercise, and (2) work toward and monitor progress toward these goals.

Arkansas will be participating in MARCH INTO MAY from MARCH 8 to MAY 19, 1999. However, these Program dates can be easily shortened or set for another time of year. The MARCH INTO MAY kit is already prepared and is ready to be sent to your school. If your school would like to receive a FREE COPY of the MARCH INTO MAY KIT and POSTER, please contact:
