You are invited to attend the Annual Arkansas Alternative Learning Environment (ALE) Conference scheduled on Wednesday, March 31 and Thursday, April 1, 1999, at the Little Rock Hilton Inn. "Alternative Learning Environments: Effective Programs, Successful Students" is the theme for the conference. The event will be sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Education.

The conference goal is to bring together individuals with a common interest in providing teaching strategies for ALE teachers. The conference will also emphasize best practices in ALE programs. Additonally, this conference is essential to the compliance of Act 830 of 1991, "…to require school districts to provide alternative learning environments for certain students; and for other purposes."

Our keynote speaker, Mr. Carl Boyd, is a dynamic and inspirational speaker who is known internationally for his teaching methods and his book, "Plain Teaching". During his keynote address, Mr. Boyd will discuss effective teaching methods and strategies.

The conference will have a wide array of concurrent sessions that will focus on consortium programs and independent studies. The conference is open to anyone who is interested in attending, including teachers and administrators. A tentative conference agenda is attached.

The registration fee for the conference is $20 per person. The fee includes a breakfast, luncheon, refreshments, reception, admission to general and breakout sessions, and conference materials. To register, complete and return the attached conference registration form to the address indicated on the form by Friday, March 26, 1999. Due to the hotel limit capacity, we will be able to accommodate only 300 participants. These accommodations will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. On-site registration WILL NOT be provided during the conference. Conference packets for participants will be available for pickup the day of the conference.

A block of rooms have been reserved at the Little Rock Hilton Inn. The room rate is $54 plus tax,per single or double. Participants will need to make their own room reservations by mailing the attached hotel reservation form to the Little Rock Hilton or by calling the hotel at 1-501-664-5020 or 1-800-445-8667. The deadline for reserving a room is Monday, March 15, 1999. Please state that you are with the Arkansas Alternative Learning Environment Conference.
