The Arkansas Department of Education is pleased to announce the 1998-99 Daisy and L. C. Bates Minority Scholarship Program. The scholarship program is sponsored by the Southwestern Bell Foundation. This program will offer $2,500 scholarships to ten minority students who will attend an Arkansas college or university this fall.
Applications for the scholarships will be reviewed on a competitive basis. The selection committee will use the following criteria to select the recipients:
1. Academic Achievement
2. Financial Need
3. Written Communication Skills
4. School Activities
5. Leadership Qualities
6. Community Service
The application must be completed, signed and postmarked on or before April 12, 1999. A seven-semester transcript, containing a cumulative grade point average on a four-point scale,and ACT or SAT test scores must be attached to the application. Incomplete applications will not be considered by the committee.
