The Arkansas Governor's Council on Physical Fitness & Sport is proud to sponsor the SEVENTH ANNUAL GREAT ARKANSAS WORKOUT on Thursday, May 6, 1999. This event will take place on the lawn of the state capitol. Over 600 third and fourth graders, representing elementary schools across the state with exemplary physical education programs, will converge on Little Rock for an early morning, fast paced hour of exercise and sports instruction. The music-filled morning will be kicked off by media personalities and elected officials going through a mini-workout on treadmills, stair masters and stationary bikes. The students will then participate in a warm-up with some wacky aerobics demonstrated by B98.5 disc jockey, Craig O'Neill, and a short jog around the capitol grounds. Led by some of the state's top coaches and instructors, the students will then be divided into groups and rotated through workout stations that include such activities as gymnastics, taekwondo, volleyball, fencing, rollerblading and soccer.
Twelve schools will be randomly selected according to geographic location within the state. Two sponsors from each school will be required to accompany their students. THE DEADLINE FOR REGISTERING FOR THE GREAT ARKANSAS WORKOUT IS NO LATER THAN THURSDAY, APRIL 1, 1999. If your school is interested in participating or for a registration packet, please contact: Alissa Beach, Coordinator, Arkansas Governor's Council on Physical Fitness & Sport, 4815 West Markham Street, Slot 36, Little Rock, AR 72205-3867, Email: abeach@mail.doh.state.ar.us
