The 18th National Conference on the Training and Employment of Paraprofessionals in Education, Rehabilitation and Related Services will be held in Little Rock at the DoubleTree Hotel on May 6-8, 1999. The conference theme is Contributing to Quality, which reinforces the philosophy behind the training of paraprofessionals for in Arkansas.
The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), Special Education, in its effort to provide continuous training for paraprofessionals will pay the registration fee ($45) for one (1) paraprofessional per district in grades K-12. In addition, registration will be underwritten for one (1) paraprofessional from each early childhood program per education service cooperative (ESC) and from each school district operating its own early childhood program. Please send the attached registration form for the paraprofessional selected from your district or ESC to:

Our office will handle the paperwork for these paraprofessionals. The registration form is to be submitted to our office by March 31, 1999.
Given the level of commitment from this office for this national conference and the training for paraprofessionals, we encourage each district and ESC to match the ADE efforts and register at least one other paraprofessional to attend the conference. ADE policy states that paraprofessionals will be appropriately trained and supervised in accordance with guidelines established by the ADE, Special Education Unit. The conference provides an excellent opportunity for paraprofessionals in Arkansas to continue their training.
