A 1989 legislative act establishes April 9 of each year as "Prisoners of War Remembrance Day." Every Arkansan is encouraged to commemorate the sacrifices of persons who have been captives in foreign lands while in the service of their country.
The act further requires that the superintendent of each public school in Arkansas shall arrange for appropriate exercises on campus to commemorate "Prisoners of War Remembrance Day." Please plan some appropriate observance in your school and/or classrooms to recognize those who have been prisoners of war while serving this country.
