Enclosed is one copy of the "Laboratory Safety Guide for Arkansas K-12 Schools." The Arkansas Science Teachers Association (ASTA) and the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) developed the guide for the public schools of the state. It contains recommendations on safety for K-12 science classrooms; however, following these recommendations does not remove the school district or the teacher from their responsibility for safe practices.
This guide should be duplicated, separated into grade levels and disciplines and/or given to each teacher of science within your district. The ADE does not plan to print any additional copies of this guide. The guide will appear as a PDF file on the Department's web site at: http://arkedu.state.ar.us at a later date.
