The education service cooperatives will again sponsor a one-day workshop to fulfill the requirements for counting identified gifted and talented students being served in secondary content classes by a teacher who is not a trained specialist in gifted education. It will be held at J. A. Fair High School, 13420 David O. Dodd Road, Little Rock, Friday, August 6, 1999, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration will be 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. This will be the only statewide workshop conducted this summer. We hope your teachers will plan to attend.
The workshop will be for teachers of English, mathematics, science, or social studies. Districts that wish to count identified gifted students enrolled in a secondary honors content option as formally receiving gifted and talented services must send any content teacher, who has not previously attended an approved in-service workshop, unless a waiver has been granted by the Office of Gifted and Talented.
Participants are required to attend the full day in order to obtain certificates of attendance.
Please have teachers in your district who still need this workshop register through their Education Service Cooperative or in the case of Pulaski County districts, through the Coordinator of Gifted Programs in their district. The deadline for registration is July 9; however, teachers hired after this date are eligible to attend. Please have them register as soon as possible.
