The listings accompanying this memorandum are the new grades' K-8 and 9-12 textbooks and other instructional materials for computer science, mathematics, business education, career orientation, general cooperative education and workplace readiness. These instructional materials were reviewed favorably by State Selecting Committees of subject area teachers and administrators from across the state. They were adopted by the State Board of Education. The State Committees' main evaluative criterion was correlation of the materials with the curriculum frameworks.

State contracts become effective July 1, 1999, for the textbooks and other instructional materials on these lists. The materials will be available for purchase from the appropriate textbook depositories for classroom implementation in school year l999-2000.

These lists are working copies only. They will be useful as local teachers and administrators make selections of new textbooks and other instructional materials in the aforementioned curriculum areas. The lists to be incorporated into your total listing of Textbooks and Instructional Materials (gray and red binders) will be sent in the Spring.

Districts will receive examination copies (samples) of these materials for use during the selection process. School systems may keep the samples of the textbooks or other materials they adopt and purchase.

After adoption reports are filed, all other materials must be returned to the appropriate textbook depository. Please exercise one of the following options when returning samples:

For shipments weighing 100 pounds or less, send parcel post "fourth class."
Package no more than 50 pounds per carton. Do not send C.O.D.
Request a credit or refund for postage from the depository.

Ship "freight collect" if a depository shipment weighs more than 100 pounds.
There is a minimum charge of $20.00 when returning by freight.
Be sure to label all boxes "textbook samples."

If you fail to receive samples, please request them by contacting the Arkansas representative of the publisher.

Forms for reporting adoptions are included with this distribution. Information from adoption reports will be made available to the textbook depositories, so they may stock adequate inventories of the new materials. Timely reporting will enable us to provide the depositories with the necessary lead time. This will help avoid delays in filling and shipping your textbook orders for the 1999-2000 school year. We will appreciate receiving your Report of Adoption as soon as selections are made.

There are attachments to this memo and they will be delivered to you in the next bulk mailing.
