In 1996, a statewide task force developed A Resource Guide: Developing School Policies on Children with Special Health Care Needs as stipulated by Arkansas Act 1146 of 1995. The purpose of the guide was to provide direction to local school districts in developing policies and procedures related to students who are medically fragile, chronically ill, and/or technology dependent and at the same time addressed the issues associated with risk management and liability. The Special Education Unit would like to determine the result of publishing the guide in terms of how many districts currently have policies and procedures in place and the impact of those policies and procedures on the population of students with special health care needs.
Please complete the attached survey and mail it directly to Dr. Denise Stewart who was contracted to compile and analyze the results by June 1, 1999. A self-addressed stamped envelope is enclosed for your convenience.

The results of this survey will be helpful in planning the next steps in providing services to students with special health care needs. The Special Education Unit is in the process of developing a paraprofessional training module to address this topic. A task force is currently being formed which will undertake the task. Thank you in advance for completing this survey.
