The Arkansas Humanities Council announces a new education minigrant program that will support imaginative, content-based K-12 programs in social studies, English language arts, foreign languages, and English as a Second Language. The maximum amount that will be awarded in a grant is $2,000.
A committee of K-12 and post-secondary educators will oversee the program. When deciding which education minigrant applications to approve, committee members will look for projects that have the following characteristics:
. a direct relationship to student learning;
. a clear instructional focus;
. a demonstrated relationship to Arkansas Department of Education curriculum frameworks; and
. an emphasis on activities at the building or classroom level.
The first deadline for applications for education minigrants is November 1, 1998. Other scheduled deadlines are January 1, March 1, May 1, July 1, September 1, and November 1, 1999. Once all grant funds are awarded, any remaining deadlines will be canceled. AHC suggests that those interested in the program apply as soon as possible.
