The third Joint Conference on Teaching will be held at the Excelsior Hotel, and Statehouse Convention Center on November 5-6, 1998, in Little Rock. The conference will have a wide array of sessions devoted to teacher training in the areas of science, social studies, English language arts, and mathematics to be used in the K-16 classrooms of our state. This is one of the largest curriculum-based training events for teachers in our state.
The conference will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 5, 1998, with sessions, workshops, and short courses, and will end at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 1998. The conference will have a rich program for K-16 teachers, and teacher educators with an estimated 8 short courses, 60 workshops, and 120 sessions for elementary, middle, high school, and college teachers.
Some session titles include: Backyard Critters K-4, Technology and Problem Solving Math 9-16, National Writing Project K-12, Trail of Tears 5-8, Weather on the Internet 5-12, Arkansas Teacher Licensure K-16, Hands on Chemistry 9-12, Project AWARE K-4.
On Friday morning a "Joint Breakfast and Keynote Session" will be hosted by the Arkansas Science Teachers' Association, Arkansas Council for the Social Studies, Arkansas Council of Teachers of English, and Arkansas Statewide Systemic Initiative. The Keynote speaker will be Dr. Don Diffine. He will present a humorous, motivational talk geared to all curriculum areas and all grades.
Each of the above organizations will hold general meetings and luncheons, with door prizes for their membership. Plus, over 30 vendors and exhibitors will display their textbooks, equipment and materials for teachers to view. Many will offer workshops of benefit to teachers.
The attached forms had a cut off date of October 1, 1998. However, it is still possible to register and make hotel reservations, but they must be mailed soon.
