Make learning connect to the real world! Apply for a Nifty Nutrition grant by January 30, 1999. Nifty Nutrition With Skill Integration Activities, a curriculum for grades K-6 is correlated to the SAT 9 Objectives (See attached samples). These grants include turn-key curriculum materials for each classroom; a $300 one time only equipment allowance per building and require a minimum three hour in-service for all classroom teachers and the school child nutrition manager. As part of the grant the school cafeteria will furnish the food required for learning experiences thus the signature of the district child nutrition director is required. These noncompetitive first-come/first-serve grants are limited to approximately 200 kindergarten classrooms and 100 classrooms per grade level for grades one through six.
Schools will receive classroom curriculum and materials valued at $56/ kindergarten classroom and $50.50/classroom grades one through six. The Nifty program provides sequential learning experiences and integrates "hands-on" food experiences with language arts, reading and math skills while teaching nutrition concepts. Nifty encourages children to accept a wide variety of foods and to gain a foundation of healthy eating habits.
