For the past several weeks, Director's Communications have been posted on the ADE Web site and paper copies have been mailed to districts. After October 30, 1998, the Department will no longer send paper copies of Director's Communications. The only exception will be when attachments are of such volume or construct that it is not practical to reproduce that copy for Web use. Those packets will continue to be included in the weekly mail packets.
Response from the schools to the electronic version of Director's Communications has been very positive. It is seen as positive step toward improved communications and making information available in a more timely and efficient manner.
Some schools have noted that they do not use Microsoft Word or Excel as their word processor. Those schools have experienced some difficulty reading the attachments. For your information and use, the following Web sites provide free software that can be down loaded and used as a reader of Word and Excel documents. Schools that have tried these tools have found them very helpful and easy to use.
