The Central States Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (CSC), a 17-state regional meeting, will be held in Little Rock, Arkansas, on April 15-18, 1999. This year's theme, Standards for a New Century, establishes the focus for more than 150 conference sessions and 30 workshops. The quality staff development offered at the conference will inform and prepare foreign language educators to meet the challenges of standards for the profession and for students.
In addition to sessions focusing on the national foreign language standards, there will be presentations on block scheduling, hands-on activities that build language proficiency, instructional strategies for various learning styles, portfolios, middle school language instruction, performance assessment, the use of technology to enhance language learning, and many other useful topics. Sessions will be presented by outstanding national and regional foreign language educators; in addition, many exceptional Arkansas foreign language educators were selected to offer presentations.
A foreign language conference of this size has never before been held in Arkansas. Please encourage and support all foreign language educators' participation in this exceptional opportunity for staff development. Please provide attachments to this memo (excerpts from the preview program) to all foreign language educators. Conference registration information will be included in the "Central Connection" (to be mailed to foreign language educators) and on the CSC web site (http://www.ualr.edu/~centralstate) by late November.
Paper attachments to this memo will be delivered in the next bulk mail.
