The 1999 National Migrant Education Conference will be held Saturday through Wednesday, April 24-28, 1999, at the Statehouse Convention and Conference Center in Little Rock. "Creating A Village of Hope and Opportunity," is the theme for the Conference. The event is co-sponsored by the National Association of State Directors of Migrant Education and the Migrant Education Program at the Arkansas Department of Education.
The Conference will feature professional staff development sessions. These sessions will provide instructional activities that educators can use in the classroom setting. Featured speakers will address current educational issues and reforms. The opening general session will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 25. Following the session, a Welcome to Arkansas Reception will be held at the River Market in downtown Little Rock.
This year's conference will also feature parent sessions. Schools are encouraged to either bring or send parents to this conference. Tentatively, a workshop on technology and a workshop on English language acquisition has been planned as part of the pre-conference activities.
This conference will be beneficial to educators throughout Arkansas. Superintendents are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to attend the conference, as well as bring participants from their districts. This year's conference will be an excellent source of staff development in the area of migrant education.
