ATTENTION! This school year Arkansas will change the method of calculation for reimbursement to include total rates by category of Free, Reduced, and Paid. No reimbursement rate will be used for total meals as in the past. This rate is included in each rate category.

Reimbursement rates for the National School Lunch, Breakfast, Snacks, and Milk Programs, which became effective July 1, 1999, are as follows:

Regular Lunches Safety Net Lunches
Free $ 1.98 Free $ 2.00
Reduced Price 1.58 Reduced Price 1.60
Paid .19 Paid .21

Regular Breakfasts Severe Need Breakfasts
Free $ 1.09 Free $ 1.30
Reduced Price .79 Reduced Price 1.00
Paid .21 Paid .21

After School Snacks Milk
Free $ .54 Paid .1275
Reduced Price .27 Free Average cost per pint
Paid .05

School districts which served 60% or more of the total lunches to students eligible for free or reduced price meals in the second preceding school year (1997-98) are designated "Safety Net" districts and will receive two cents additional reimbursement for each lunch served. A list of districts eligible for these rates is enclosed.

Severe Need Breakfast rates are approved on a school by school basis after application is made by the school district. Contact Jimmy Burks at (501) 324-9502 for additional information.

Enclosed is a copy of the following report forms. Please make additional copies as needed.

Claim for Reimbursement - The revised Claim Form has the new reimbursement rates for 1999-2000. PLEASE DISCARD THE OLD CLAIM FORMS.

Daily Record Form - It is recommended that a separate record be maintained for each school as listed on Schedule A of the Agreement. Participation figures, by school, are required for severe need breakfast reimbursement. If you do not apply for severe need breakfast reimbursement and wish to keep only one record for all students served in the same location (even if this includes more than one school), you may do so. If this is done, all schools combined on one report will be reviewed when state or federal reviews are made. This form may be modified if a local district needs additional information. The cash management worksheet on the back will provide good management information. If you decide to use it, you may use it in its entirety, or you may use only the total columns (O,S,W,X, and Y).

Edit Check Worksheet - This is the current form recommended for edit checks required by regulation. It may be modified to meet local needs; however, the comparisons required on this form must be a part of any form used.

On-Site Review Form - Regulations require that each district (with more than one serving site) conduct on-site reviews of each school by February 1 of each year.

Verification Summary - This is the current form recommended for the summary of verification results. It may be modified if you choose; however, the information required on this form must be a part of any form used. The verification process must be completed by December 15, including the completion of a verification summary.
