We are in the process of performing a security audit on the APSCN network. We have identified the following change which must be made immediately in order to protect the integrity of the servers responsible for processing student records and school district financial applications:
A policy is being established to allow computers to attach to these servers only if they are part of the APSCN network (IP addresses beginning with 165.29 and 170.211). Effective July 30, 1999, existing access from outside this network will be terminated.
This change will mainly affect those who currently use a private Internet Service provider to access the APSCN servers (usually from home). The servers will no longer be accessible through a private provider.
An alternative for connecting to the servers from your home is to establish a dial-up connection into your local school district network. Dial-up access security will be the responsibility of the local school district, and any resulting breaches of security may result in the termination of services from the APSCN network. To pursue this option, please call 1/800/435-7989 and ask for assistance from APSCN "LAN Support."
