Act 1555 of 1999 requires school districts to post a prohibition against smoking or use of tobacco products on school property.
The Department of Education (ADE), Arkansas School Board's Association (ASBA) and Department of Health (DOH) collaborated to assist districts with obtaining notification stickers in order to comply with this new law.
Therefore, we have mailed out a first shipment of the stickers to districts. ADE was shorted on the first printing so hopefully we will be able to send out a second mailing by the end of this week.
In addition, since many districts ordered in lots of 50 stickers, we had to estimate the numbers of stickers actually needed. If districts will let their cooperative director know if they need additional tobacco stickers, then ADE can facilitate shipment of the additional stickers through the coops.
I apologize for any inconvenience and delay. However, since DOH provided the stickers absolutely free of charge, we felt districts would be willing to work through these issues. The free stickers were possibly not the type that some of you would have preferred. However, the price was certainly right!
For districts that had never ordered stickers, they need to let their cooperative director know the number actually needed. Please do not pad the requests.
Some districts may wish to purchase outdoor signs for fences and/or stadiums. The Department of Corrections has designed a product. School districts may purchase under the state cooperative purchasing agreement. At the Department of Corrections that contact person is Mr. Hugh Smith at (870) 479-2324. The fax number is (870) 479-2360.
If questions, please contact Dr. Bobbie Davis at (501) 682-1297.
