The Early Childhood/Reading Unit of the School Improvement and Instructional Support Section of the Department of Education is announcing the application process for NEW and CONTINUATION grants for the EVEN START FAMILY LITERACY PROGRAM. There are funds available for new grant awards and to continue current programs that demonstrate sufficient progress toward meeting the goals of Even Start.
The Even Start Family Literacy application must contain these components:
1. Early Childhood Education
2. Parenting Education
3. Adult Literacy
A review panel has been established to review the applications and recommend funding in accordance with the Even Start Family Literacy Program statute (Part B of Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act).
Included with this memorandum is the request for Even Start Proposals, the Even Start Regulations and a copy of the Grant Application package. Proposals in response to this announcement must reach the Early Childhood and Reading Unit, Even Start/Homeless Office or be postmarked no later than SEPTEMBER 30, 1999. If selected, funds may be retroactive to
