Since September 8, 1998, all Director's Communications (Memos) have been distributed via the Department of Education World Wide Web Home Page - arkedu.state.ar.us. Since no paper copies are issued, except for occasional specialty forms or bulk mailings, it is extremely important for school personnel to check our home page daily.
This communications system maintains the basic format that was formerly used with the paper documents with one exception. Attachments are accessed through application software rather than being part of the text of the memo. Attachments are posted in Microsoft Word or Excel format depending on the nature of the document. Use the mouse to click on the file name in the attachment box to view the content of the attachment. This should access the needed software package.
The initial screen in the Director's Memos section shows a color-coded table that includes the subject, memo number, type of memo, date and section. The table can be sorted by any of these fields. To view and print the full text of the memo, click on the subject field.
Response to this electronic version of the old paper forms has been overwhelmingly positive. It is apparent, however, that some school personnel have not checked the home page in a timely manner. This places a district at risk of failure to access time-sensitive documents or to get current information about important issues, especially Rules and Regulations and changes in state law.
