The Arkansas Bar Association and the Arkansas Association for Legal Assistants are promoting Law Day 2000 in Arkansas through a Law Day Poster Contest for 5th Grade students in Arkansas. The theme for Law Day 2000 is "Democracy and Diversity."

Participating students should create a poster with an interpretation of this year's Law Day theme. The poster might illustrate how diverse people have contributed to America's government, legal system, popular culture, etc. Celebration of our freedom and our diversity allows the legal profession this opportunity to remind our schools of our legal system and its role in this country. Winners will receive their prizes on May 3, 2000, at 11:00 a.m. during an awards ceremony in the Capitol rotunda. Awards include savings bonds for three winners in each Congressional district as well as a $200 savings bond for the state winner.

THE DEADLINE IS APRIL 12, 2000. Posters should be mailed to Connie Helmich at Chisenhall, Nestrud & Julian, P.A., 400 West Capitol, Suite 2840, Little Rock, Arkansas 72201. Questions about the contest may be directed to Connie Helmich at chelmich@cnjlaw.com or 501-372-5800. Please note that the posters will not be returned unless arrangements are made prior to the judging of the posters. The attached flyer offers details about the contest and prizes. Please circulate this information to 5th Grade teachers.
