The 2000-2001 school year is the seventeenth year of the Blue Ribbon School Recognition Program of the United States Department of Education. This cycle will be for ELEMENTARY schools that wish to submit an application. The last date and time for submission at the state level is Friday, October 13, 2000, 4:30 p.m. The school will need to submit the original application, plus three copies, and a disk with the application on it to:

This will allow a committee sufficient time to review all the applications and to select exemplary submissions for national recognition. These nominations will be forwarded to the U.S. Department of Education by November 10, 2000.
The minimum period of operation for schools submitting applications, including newly-merged schools, is five years. That is, the school must be in the sixth year of operation when the application is submitted. Schools submitting applications must not have received national recognition in the Blue Ribbon Program during the five years prior to the current application year.
