The Arkansas Department of Education will hold a technical assistance workshop for charter school organizers on June 28, 2000 in the Auditorium of the Arch Ford Education Building. The workshop, scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m., is intended to assist groups in preparing an application for a charter school to be presented to the State Board of Education. The workshop will be open to groups considering the possibility of applying for either a conversion or open-enrollment charter school.

The workshop will feature presenters from the ADE and will cover a variety of topics including application design, procedural requirements, curriculum design, school finance, facilities, student and teacher insurance, teacher retirement, equity compliance, child nutrition, special education, federal programs and more. Any group submitting a letter of intent to apply for a charter is strongly encouraged to attend this one time workshop. Other groups interested in learning more about charter schools and the issues involved in starting a school are also invited to attend.

Attendees are requested to pre-register for the workshop by completing the attached form or contacting Mr. Greenway. Deadline for pre-registration is June 16, 2000.
