All school districts in the state now have student passenger excess liability coverage on school buses in the amount of two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000.00). This coverage is a result of Act 1123 of 1999. It is provided without cost to the school district.
There are some specifics mandated by Law which are listed below:
1. The school bus driver must be at fault for coverage to apply.
2. This coverage applies to student passengers only while riding, loading and unloading on the school bus at fault for the accident.
3. This coverage is in excess to the primary coverage on the involved bus.
Attached is a list of procedures to follow and a Liability Loss Notice to be completed by the responsible school district when an accident occurs.
