School districts will administer the Iowa Early Learning Inventory during late August 2004, and early September 2004 to meet the requirements of Act 35 (Second Extraordinary Session of the Arkansas 84th General Assembly) Section 1, (e). The Iowa Early Learning Inventory is in a checklist format that helps teachers observe and record information about cognitive knowledge and classroom behaviors in six key areas: general knowledge, oral communication, written language, math concepts, work habits, and attentive behavior. The inventory was developed to be appropriate for all students, including those students with special needs and linguistic backgrounds, other than standard English.
It is recommended that a principal, district test coordinator, counselor, and/or kindergarten teacher attend the videoconference at the local cooperative.
There will be training for teachers through a videoconference on July 30, 2004, from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. While registration is not necessary, schools should contact the local educational cooperative for broadcast arrangements.
Materials for the Iowa Early Learning Inventory should arrive in districts the week of August 9, 2004. Schools will have approximately five weeks to complete the inventory and ship back to Riverside Publishing Company, no later than September 17, 2004. Results of the inventory will be returned to districts approximately four weeks after receipt of ALL inventories. Further information will be provided at the videoconference and through materials received at the schools.
Director’s Memo SI-04-047 created March 23, 2004, contains a copy of the Kindergarten Readiness Indicator Checklist (KRIC). Schools can continue to administer individual school screenings/assessments as seen appropriate for placement and determination of readiness skills.
Please bring the attachment to this Director’s Memo to the videoconference.
