The Arkansas Tobacco Settlement Commission in collaboration with the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) Office of Coordinated School Health, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, the Sports, Play, and Active Recreation for Kids (SPARK) program and PE4Life is offering a grant to address the childhood obesity crisis in the state. The grants will provide schools with the SPARK physical education curriculum, equipment, FITNESSGRAM software, HealthTeacher.com and all teacher trainings.
Grants will be awarded to up to 48 schools across the state. Interested schools should sign the attached letter and fax to 501-683-3611 by September 18, 2009. Notice of the Request for Application (RFA) will be released in a Commissioner’s Memo the first of October for schools to apply. The RFA will be on the Coordinated School Health’s website at http://www.arkansascsh.org/.
Grantees will be notified of award by January 2010. Staff training and equipment purchases for programs will occur in the late spring and summer of 2010 and the programs will be implemented in the fall of 2010.
