The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) is looking for candidates of the following description: a relatively new educator illustrative not only of Arkansas's best, but also the nation's best; whose lessons provide models for others; a teacher distinguished above and beyond established top-quality education professionals. Anyone is encouraged to recommend an educator for this recognition. Further guidance is outlined below.
The selected individual may ultimately receive prestigious recognition both state- and nationwide. Recommendations for minority educators are encouraged. Only the unsung heroes will be eligible for this recommendation.
This year, the focus will be on elementary school educators (K-5). Teachers recommended should have between five and 18 years of experience. Principals should have 10 years as an administrator and no more than 20 years total experience. The recommended individuals are typically classroom teachers as opposed to specialists and are recognized by peers and supervisors as unique in ability to produce growth in their students. Occasionally, a principal or specialist is considered.
These applications will also be used by the Arkansas Department of Education, which maintains a file of emerging education leaders that consists of a cadre of distinguished teachers and principals. The educators may be considered for membership on advisory committees and task forces, feedback on key issues, and/or consideration for awards.
Please forward recommendations for one to three candidates using the attached PDF recommendation form, according to submission guidelines:
• Include a one-page, typewritten narrative with this recommendation form that addresses how the candidate meets the criteria
• Include a copy of the candidate’s resume
• List references and provide an alternate reference name for each reference separately
It is of the utmost importance that the information provided be of high quality and reflect the depth of the candidate. Please be descriptive and include specific information that provides evidence of and a convincing case for an exemplary educator. Evidence of student achievement and value-added impact on students is a high priority. Please keep this recommendation CONFIDENTIAL and do not share it with the nominated individual.
